Specifying and assigning content
At Loblaw, creating and assigning content to divisions, roles and sometimes specific stores presented complex challenges.
Internet access
At the United Nations, poor or absent Internet access in various locations around the world created unique barriers.
Multilingualism
And finally, the challenge we are also familiar with of a multilingual (English and French) intranet at Dynacare where the intranet team discovered that not all widgets could support multilingualism .
User-driven design
This year’s winners have made great efforts israel telegram data to put employees at the heart of the intranet design process. To do this, organisations have used a range of methods, including design thinking (Angelini and Dynacare), card sorting and tree testing (Husky Energy) and persona development (Con Edison and Dynacare). The Wellcome Trust team focused on top tasks.
Thinking outside the organization
Employees are often so focused on their own work and team that they are unfortunately not aware of what other groups within the organization are doing. Without knowledge of the rest of the organization, individuals, teams and departments can become navel-gazing, miss opportunities to collaborate, unnecessarily hire external consultants when the necessary expertise is already available in-house and possibly miss new career paths.
The winning teams are aware of this and have worked to provide information about different parts of the business in various ways. For example, the Husky Energy intranet has sections on the different teams, so employees can find information about each team’s strategy, direction and performance. Dynacare’s “Who does what” page gives employees insight into the company structure and provides details about what cross-functional departments do.
