The Ministry of Culture was created in 1985 by President José Sarney. Since the 1990s, the agency has been gaining strength and national cinema has been creating and gaining its space in entertainment. In 2019, several Brazilian productions were presented and awarded at international festivals, such as Cannes in France, Sundance in the USA and the Berlinale in Germany.
