Pause marketing: the successor to push & pull

Push and pull marketing are real 1.0 marketing terms. It is time for a new movement. I call it pause marketing. Push and pull are terms that originate from a time when we thought consumers were merged into one dumb gray mass. We now know better.

Even though with pull marketing it no longer seemed like we were sending out huge amounts of information on our own, we were still doing it secretly. We were still sending out information, only now we could package it in nice marketing terms. We thought that people who really found it interesting would come to us to get this information. We attract them with compelling content, but in fact we are still sending.

Marketing phasing

Sending information, getting information, target group segmentation, customer centric thinking, etc. Although we keep using 1.0 terms, a lot has changed. We have seen the trend that consumers are increasingly generating content themselves. Organizations are also using this, because information from other like-minded consumers is often seen as more reliable than information sent by an organization. They talk much more in their own street and do not have the consumer's interest before their turnover targets.

The arrival of the various devices has also caused a change. Our mobile phone used to be used much more to receive information 'on the go'. When I worked at an organization that developed mobile sites and apps, we often saw a peak in traffic between 18:00 and 22:00 on wifi. This told us that many people mainly used their mobile phone while they were at home in the evening.
