Gingerbread cookies

A hobby as a business is a dream that has become a reality for Natalia Bandurina, who has three higher educations, a dissertation defense, and a scientific career at a research institute.

After the reorganization of 2016 at the institute, the woman found herself unemployed. After attending a number of interviews without results, Natalia decided to study coaching and conduit cn mobile phone numbers database accounting, but life had other plans for her career.

Once, after casually talking with a friend and her mother, Natalia decided that it was time to open a joint business - a confectionery. The aspiring entrepreneurs did not have any start-up capital, but this did not stop them.

This is how the Mrs. Baker project came about – gingerbread cookies made according to a unique old Bavarian recipe, made from German, sometimes Russian flour, sugar-free honey, secret ingredients and spices.

Consumers are different: there are both private and corporate orders. Sales of branded gingerbread (with the company's logo) are going well, as well as themed ones (for example, for Teacher's Day, New Year or March 8).

Hundreds of types of candles
Hobby as a business

When David and Wendy Kast of Glendale Heights, Illinois, started their own candle business, they weren't just looking for profit — they were also driven by simple curiosity. Candles are made with dozens of different types of wicks alone, not to mention the waxes and essential oils. Each combination makes the candles burn differently.

When the options became too numerous, the Kasts began to distribute candles to friends, but with one obligatory condition: that they watch the candle burn and make notes in a special questionnaire. The friends enthusiastically agreed to participate in the experiment, moreover, they convinced the Kasts that a hobby as a business in this case is a great idea.

The couple hesitated for a long time to open their own business, but, as they say, life forced them to. In 2001, Wendy lost her job, and finding a job for a deaf girl (she suffers from this disorder) even in the USA is not an easy task.

David, who also has hearing problems, supported his wife. Over the course of 10 years, the Castes filled the entire state with hundreds of varieties of candles and related products, including bath accessories, wax toys, and coasters.

The business could have flourished and become even larger if the couple had not been fanatically devoted to family. The Kastas do not agree to lucrative offers to expand the business and do not take large overtime orders, preferring to spend more time with their children.

But despite this, their annual turnover today is $1 million. That's how successfully this couple's hobby turned into a business.
