Chocolate and clips from a comedy film were two of the concepts that a research team dubbed “happiness interventions” and “short-term happiness shocks” in recent experiments. Conducted by three researchers at the University of Warwick, these experiments tested whether they could “induce happiness” in their sample.
They found a link between human happiness and performance. In fact, they reported that happy employees are 12% more productive than average.
Sales Motivation Tip : We wouldn't suggest using these results to justify flooding the office with chocolates, or having your staff watch YouTube for an hour every morning at work. But if it's for a greater cause.
James Altucher, author of books on wealth, success, and happiness like I Was Blind But Now I See and How to Be The Luckiest Person Alive , asked himself a great question in a LinkedIn post : “ Why does giving more make me happier and more productive? ” His answer is equally excellent: “ I have no idea. I do it, and it works .”
Luckily for us, Altucher gives us some ideas on how to give more. He recommends that we give people not what they expect, but what they deserve. It's all about money
Does money buy happiness?
Although many HR gurus extol non-financial factors as crucial to employee happiness, traditional cash pay undoubtedly motivates a large percentage of employees.
Three recent surveys from Spherion, SAP and the Society for Human Resource denmark whatsapp Management state bluntly that the number one factor that motivates employees—and makes them happy—is compensation.
Sales Motivation Tip: Do you sometimes feel like we live in a world where you have to grab everything you can get? If so, as Altucher says, the best thing you can do to change that is to give everything you can.
9. Transparency and honesty
Ryan Harwood, CEO of PureWow, argues that happiness is affected by transparency and honesty. One example he gives in Fortune is the scenario of a major decision or new policy within a company. Some employees may agree with the decision or policy, but if management explains the reasons, staff are more likely to understand and respect it.
Sales Motivation Tip : Have you made any big changes that affect your team's selling styles ? Have you made any big sales decisions lately? If so, did you get not only buy-in from your sales teams, but also understanding of the reasons behind them?
