Based on data from Slowmist Hacked, Atlas panama mobile database reports that blockchain hackers stole nearly $3.78 billion in 2020. There were 122 attacks recorded, roughly 33% of the total 364 attacks over the years. Cryptocurrency scams accounted for 13% of all hacks targeting blockchain projects.
2020 has been a challenging year for cybersecurity and the world as a whole. The global pandemic has not only threatened our physical health, but has also seen a new wave of cyberattacks threatening our digital lives.
The global chaos hasn't had much of an impact on the blockchain world, as cryptocurrencies, most notably Bitcoin, have seen significant growth in value by the end of 2020. However, the blockchain sector hasn't been immune to cyberattacks in the past year.
The Atlas VPN team's analysis is based on data provided by Slowmist Hacked (an aggregator of information on uncovered attacks targeting blockchain projects, applications, and tokens). Monetary losses were calculated based on the exchange rate as of January 12, 2021.
