Department stores' inbound sales are strong

Post by metoc15411 »

According to data on sales and store visit trends for foreign tourists visiting Japan released by the Japan Department Stores Association, both figures are from April to June 2017, but both figures are higher than the same months of the previous year.
The table below shows the breakdown, with sales at duty-free stores increasing by 141.4% and sales of consumables (cosmetics, food, etc.) increasing by 183.2%.
Of the most popular items, cosmetics were the most popular, followed by high-end brands in second place and women's fashion accessories in third place. It can be said that these are chosen because of the peace of mind and trust that comes with Japan's high quality and brand power.

According to the 2016 statistics, 6.37 million (about 27%) of the 24.04 million foreign visitors (inbound) to Japan were Chinese, and of the 3.7476 trillion yen in inbound spending, 1.4755 trillion yen (39%) was Chinese.
Furthermore, the majority of foreign tourists visiting Japan at tax-free processing counters from April to June were tourists from mainland China, making China the most important customer in the inbound market. While
it is said that the buying spree of Chinese inbound spending ended in 2016, the spending power of Chinese visitors to Japan in 2017 is not as strong as in 2015, but it does not seem to have weakened. It can be said that
the scenes of buying sprees at electronics retailers and other stores as before are no longer seen, and the consumption of Chinese visitors to Japan has simply changed from electronics products to high-quality Japanese cosmetics, pharmaceuticals, and women's fashion accessories.
