Because registration for this year's Designblok 2019 will be closed in a few weeks , we have prepared several articles in which we summarize our experiences with presenting at this largest Czech event dedicated to design.
We have been to Designblok for more than ten years and have collaborated with the fair in all possible situations: for exhibitors, through co-organizers Superstudio and as a PR agency for our clients. We summarize what you as a brand or company should expect from a presentation at Designblok. And what you cannot expect.
Design block for companies
At the very beginning of this series of articles, I france telemarketing list would like to point out that my perspective is determined by the fact that I have always prepared all activities at Designblok for a company or brand . And always with a decent budget. This will also make my perspective different from that of a budding designer who is selected by the organizers to Openstudio to present their work, product or a brand that is completely new.
With a few exceptions, we do not work for individuals at Idealab , so this series of articles is intended for companies and marketing people who are considering whether to participate in this show.
What can Designblok 2019 bring you? How much will a presentation at the show cost you? What can you actually expect from this – logistically, financially and personally – demanding event? I will try to answer.

A bit of history
Designblok has come a long way in its twenty years of existence and has become a massive, very large-scale event that, in my opinion, has no parallel in the Czech Republic. Jana Zielinski and Jiří Macek (the main organizers) have done a huge amount of work for the field of design and a big thank you goes to them for that. Their concept based on “rotating” superstudios has taken root in Holešovice in recent years. Before that, they brought tens of thousands of people to various interesting buildings every year, such as the Electric Works on Vltavské Street, the freight station on Žižkov, the Colloredo-Manseld Palace by Charles Bridge, but also the Classic 7 building in Holešovice… There was a lot going on and I can’t name all the places where Designblok has been.
Superstudio Choice: Futurama
Some eight years ago, one of the superstudios was also in the Futurama Business Park project of the Erste Group Immorent development group. Since it was a project for which we had been creating marketing and PR for several years, we were happy to offer the then completed A-class office spaces to Designblok. In fact, now, with hindsight, I am surprised that the developer took such a risk and provided freshly completed spaces for such a mass event. From the visitor's point of view, it was certainly not a superstudio with the greatest genius of loci. It brought us as a PR agency a lot of work at the time and Futurama attention for a week. A whole series of complicated situations arose for exhibitors there: from logistics, to low ceiling heights, to poor parking throughout the Invalidovna location. Yes, the choice of a superstudio is important and you as a (potential) exhibitor cannot influence it. Designblok's Superstudio is currently based at the Holešovice Exhibition Grounds.
Design block Holešovice
The completely bizarre area, which will probably bear the weight of the reign of the Koček carousel clan for a long time, is unfriendly and, in my opinion, disgusting every year in the October rain and wind. We prepared exhibitions here for Slezákovy závody and Popp in Bílovice (the opening photo of this article).
The whole place itself, in my opinion, has a terrible energy. It's as if fried fries, sausages, a shark from Sea World next door, sculptures from Lapidárium... were mixed here with design and the Czech effort to be world-class in it.
Location matters
Because Designblok will be at the Exhibition Grounds again this year, come to terms with the environment of the Matějská pouta. Forget about the genius loci and try to squeeze in the exhibition grid as close as possible to the entrance to the central hall. We and our client Popp from Velké Bílovice failed to do this a few years ago. So we can say with absolute certainty: yes, it really depends on where you have your stand. Although the organizers are trying to argue that it doesn't. Significantly fewer people will come to the back of the hall than to the front. The trade fair concept of Superstudio clearly favors either island expositions or corner ones. If you have ever exhibited at a trade fair, you know that the location is also reflected in the price of renting the exhibition area. There is a direct correlation: the more expensive the area, the more people will pass through it. Consider, here an investment in a more lucrative area, which will be about 15-20% higher, will not be worth it.
What about the Designblok theme?
If you make chandeliers, drinking glasses, chairs or, for example, kitchen hoods (I named the manufacturers and sellers for whom we worked at Designblok ), then the main theme of Designblok (for example, Food, Republic, Love...) is completely irrelevant to you. I think that most visitors don't notice it either. In my opinion, there is no point in trying to artificially force the main theme of Designblok into the content of the exhibition.
