Marketing Funnel, what is it and what is it for?

Post by liza89 »

The marketing funnel is a representation of the stages that a potential customer goes through, from the first contact with the company until the sale is closed.

If you have read or studied a little about Inbound Marketing, you have certainly come across the term marketing funnel. The way of making sales on the internet has evolved as technology and users have changed.

From Outbound to Inbound , there has been a major advance in the way companies approach their customers and the way users interact and engage with brands. If professionals previously considered every user to be a potential customer, today, this choice is optimized through a marketing funnel.

With the funnel, brands can nurture their contacts telegram data and bring them closer to sales. In addition, funnel segmentation helps in creating content and systematizing strategies.

Gone are the days when all you needed to make sales online was a good website and a contact channel. Back then, sales and marketing teams had very different goals and separate strategies. With the emergence of Inbound and Content Marketing methodologies, professionals began to realize the importance of creating content with specific directions and strategic approaches.

In this way, the marketing funnel began to be used as a tool to guide the lead's journey. This model represents the audience's journey from the moment they have their first contact with your company until the purchase or after-sales.

In general, the customer goes through four stages before making a purchase:

Recognition of the problem or pain;
Learning and searching for information;
Evaluation of alternatives;
Decision.

If you sell an expensive/complex product or provide services, you know that in order to make a sale, your prospect needs to understand very well what they are going to buy and what the benefits are. Without a strategy based on the funnel, it could take weeks or months for the purchase to be completed or you could end up losing the customer to the competition.

To ensure that conversions happen quickly and that leads reach the sales department in a well-qualified manner, it is important to nurture them with useful content at each stage of the funnel.

Thinking about a real funnel, the top has a larger area and then narrows until it reaches the base. Thus, hundreds of users can reach your website or social networks, but with the funnel actions some contacts are eliminated and only hot leads advance until they are ready to close the sale.
