Two other new features introduced with the latest version are timed to coincide with the start of National Bullying Prevention Month. You can now automatically hide comments that the algorithm determines are similar to previous comments that have been reported as abusive or harmless. Comments will not be deleted, and you can still see them under the “View Hidden Comments” label if you choose.
Twitter’s “Hide Replies” feature that launched globally last year. Like Twitter, the feature places inappropriate or abusive comments behind an extra click, which supposedly helps deter such content because it can be hidden from view. Except in Twitter’s case, the original sender had to manually hide replies. But Instagram’s feature is attempting to automate that function.
Instagram also says it’s expanding its nudge alerts feature to include an additional warning for when people repeatedly try to post offensive language. The company says it’s updating its in-app warnings that “nudge” users when they try to post a mean comment. Instead of asking users to rethink their comments, the new warnings will state that Instagram may disable users’ accounts if they repeatedly violate its rules. It won’t stop users from posting completely negative comments like previous anti-bullying updates, but it will ask them to rethink before posting.

In addition to these fun, personal additions, Instagram also added in-stream shopping for IGTV this week! This adds a new shopping bag icon to IGTV videos when the creator applies shopping tags. You can now shop directly on IGTV, giving creators more ways to monetize their channels.
Ecommerce is a key element of Instagram’s growth strategy, and with the addition of stores, adding more efficient ways to purchase products in-feed will be critical to maximizing the platform’s revenue potential. Remember, Instagram added shopping tags to stories in 2018.
