Benefits of transmedia projects

In recent times, new media have been conquering the market and changing the way people consume information. We have already talked about storytelling and now we are going to look at transmedia.

The fundamentals of communication have not changed, but technology has changed. Today, we watch TV or a movie while chatting with our friends on our cell phones or reading the latest news, we post a photo of someone on Instagram on the way to work, we have lunch while updating our Facebook news feed, we take a break to watch a video on YouTube and before going to bed we check the latest messages on WhatsApp.

Transmedia is a way of telling a story in different ways, on different platforms, seeking to extract the best from each medium. And they must make sense in isolation. It must arouse curiosity to lead the audience to seek out other channels. And personal participation and interaction are so important that they create a desire in the consumer to share the experience.

Transmedia is often confused with crossmedia. Crossmedia is also distributed across different channels, but its content is the same across all channels, there is no difference. Therefore, there is no motivation for the viewer to seek new information or additional content.



In traditional media, stories and means do not communicate and the whole has no meaning, that is, the sum of the parts is worth more than the whole. Therefore, the consumer experience was not satisfactory.

In transmedia, the whole is more than the sum of its separate parts. The experience is enriching and there is a sense of euphoria when completing all of them.

Globo, the largest broadcast TV network in the country, produces transmedia content for all of its soap operas. In addition to the conventional episode summaries and upcoming chapters, the network offers behind-the-scenes footage on its website, a store with products used in the soap opera and even blogs by the characters themselves.



Another example is the Masterchef program on the Bandeirantes network. In addition to watching the program, viewers can interact live via Twitter. Some comments are selected and broadcast on television.

The trend is for media to become increasingly integrated and for the public to be able to interact with them even more.
