Fábio Assahi is an administrator, graduated from the Pontifical Catholic University of Paraná (PUC-PR). Born in São Paulo, he has lived in Curitiba since 1999.
The businessman is the current president of the Union of Agricultural and Pet Shops of Paraná (SINDACA-PR). In addition to being the coordinator of the Sector Chambers of pet shops and veterinary clinics at ACP, he is a managing partner of Nikko Distribuidora (veterinary products). He is also the owner of the Pet Show Angeloni stores and a managing partner of Bioctal (pet product importer).
The saying that “a dog is a man’s best friend” has never been truer. More and more, humans are treating their pets as if they were truly part of the family. And they are spending money on it: last year, the pet rcs database generated approximately R$36 billion in revenue. The data comes from the Brazilian Association of the Pet Products Industry (ABINPET). This figure makes Brazil the second largest pet market in the world, second only to the United States.
Even in 2020, a turbulent period due to the pandemic, the crisis is far from the sector, driven by new developments. One of them was the IPO (Initial Public Offering) of Petz, which raised R$3 billion on the stock exchange. In addition, Unilever launched new products in the segment of cleaning and hygiene products for dogs and cats.
Origins
This entrepreneurial story began in 1999, when Fábio and his wife Kanae moved to Curitiba from São Paulo. Unsure about which sector to invest in and where to start, the couple looked for several ways to start a formal job. Until at a certain point the question arose: “What do we like and love?” Kanae replied excitedly: “I love animals!” Fábio readily agreed and summed it up in one sentence: “Let’s work with animals for love!”
In 2000, the couple bought a store that looked like an aviary and began to analyze the pet market and its trends. They realized that customers were looking for products for dogs and cats that are now considered “humanized.” In other words, a closer relationship between owners and animals, who live inside the house and are considered “children.”
