In this article, we'll look at some of the emerging technologies from the Gartner Cool Vendors series . It's not that you need to go out and invest in these specific solutions, but that you should know what's on the horizon so you can spot technology gaps that may be limiting your employees' effectiveness.
This technology goes far beyond the capabilities of traditional project management software , using new innovations to blur the lines between software categories, which you'll see reflected in the variety of solutions highlighted below.
What are cool salespeople?
Since 2004, Gartner has been studying and identifying outstanding vendors in markets ranging from advertising to supply chain .
What makes a vendor “cool”? It’s much more than wearing a backwards baseball cap and listening to bands no one has heard of. The idea behind Cool Vendors is to identify smaller, newer organizations that are innovating effectively.
A great salesperson must be under 10 years old with annual revenues of less than $100 million.
The Cool Vendors series also aims to provide a realistic look at the benefit of using our student database how new technologies are actually impacting the workplace, rather than indulging in fantasy visions of humanoid cyborgs wearing VR headsets and remotely piloting drones.
Instead, cool vendors are using new technologies like artificial intelligence, blockchain, and the Internet of Things (IoT) to solve “non-trivial problems,” according to Daryl Plummer, Gartner vice president and research director.
“Non-trivial problems are those that require considering multiple aspects of innovation simultaneously,” writes Plummer . “This is what makes the best cool vendors succeed.” (The full report is available to Gartner clients.)
Some notable alumni of Gartner's Cool Vendors include well-known names such as Skype (2005) and Sling Media (2006).
