9 steps to design and execute a web positioning plan for your company

Let’s start with the main areas that your SEO project should incorporate. And first, let me give you a little clarification.

Any SEO project with a company must be 100% customized , the same does not apply to everything. Here you will see many things that correspond to real SEO strategies, but that may not be useful to you.
I have tried to organize the web positioning strategies that I show you here in a coherent manner so that you can see how they could be executed. That does not mean that they should not be executed with a different planning in your company.

1.- Define the positioning objectives for your company
The main SEO objectives for any company will always be related to being able to appear on the first page of Google results , in order to increase conversions to sales.

However, to achieve these SEO objectives, we may first have to work to achieve other SEO sub-objectives that help us reach the main one:

Improve the company's website, whether it is a website or an online store: loading speed, technical aspects, debugging, usability and web architecture, etc.
Position as many keywords as possible (one of the main pillars of any SEO project)
Increase organic traffic
Strengthening the brand image
Increase the creation of valuable SEO content for the target audience

As you can see, there are many types of SEO objectives that we will have to define. Therefore, when making the web positioning plan it is important to have them clear and well defined.

2.- Identify the best keywords for your website
Designing a good keyword strategy is one of the most important aspects to work on when starting an SEO campaign.

Keywords are those that define what we do, and what the user is searching for. It is useless to define ourselves by something that our target audience never searches for, because they will never find us.

For this reason, we must work with specialized SEO tools to be able to carry out a study of the best powerful SEO keywords. And of all the ones you find, try to define an SEO strategy that involves those that can help you get clients.

For example, in our case, we are clear. If you search for any of these keywords that I have indicated, we are the first on Google. They are very carefully crafted and worked expressions that bring us many leads and that is why they are important for our SEO project .

3.- Conduct an analysis of the competition and its positioning strategy
For certain highly fragmented business sectors or niches, it may be important to conduct a competitive analysis at the SEO level . Thanks to the various positioning tools available on the market, it is relatively easy to do so.

We use SEMRush on a regular basis, so when a client asks us for an SEO study of the competition , we base it on determining their positioning strategy through the analysis of five specific points.

Analysis of your website, products and/or services
Analysis of keywords positioned in Google
Study of pages indexed in Google
Study of pages that bring you the most traffic and keywords positioned for each page
Study of the links or backlinks that you have
Of course, there are more aspects that can be worked on, but only with this can you perfectly determine the SEO strategy that your competition may be working on . And while you are not going to copy it, it can help you do many things, I assure you of that.

4.- Optimize the On Page SEO of your website
Once the best keywords have been extracted, the next step is always to optimize and improve the website, which is called On Page SEO .

On-page SEO is a fundamental part of any SEO project, as there are many aspects to work on in order to prepare the SEO strategy to be carried out. So you should:

On the one hand, include the defined keywords in those places where Google recommends placing them. Some, such as the “Title”, will be essential for the success of your SEO project.

5.- Work on local SEO
This may be one of the specific points of your positioning strategy that you may not need to work on.

Local positioning consists of being able to appear in Google results when users perform local searches . That is, those that incorporate the name of a place, town, country or city in the search performed on Google.

Depending on your business and the SEO marketing plan you have defined, it may not be necessary to work on local SEO, although it costs nothing to register with Google My Business to appear on Google Maps.

6.- Design an SEO content strategy
SEO content strategy is essential for almost any web positioning project.

It should be noted that for Google, content is many things: blog, videos, texts, images, infographics, podcasts…

However, one of the best SEO strategies is based on publishing blog content periodically . Highly optimized for SEO and very focused on solving a need of the user or target audience.

And what does an SEO content strategy consist of, you might ask?

Important . You should prioritize interlinking in your blog content. In terms of your SEO strategy, it would be disastrous to put internal links on your commercial pages, since you would be taking users away from the pages where you want to focus conversion.

8.- Work to get quality backlinks
Without a doubt, one of the most important points for your SEO strategy, the one that will truly give you sustainability over time and visibility in search engines.

Link building , or getting backlinks, or doing Linkbuilding , consists of placing SEO links on pages outside your domain that point to your website (and its internal pages) with specific keywords.

In this way, you will be able to increase your Domain Authority , a metric that you will only be able to increase by working on Linkbuilding and that indicates to Google the authority or “strength” that your website has.

Through keywords you will be able to appear in search engines, regardless of whether they are on your website or blog. The point is that depending on your market and competition, they may be positioned on the 2nd or 3rd page or beyond, so without SEO links that reinforce them, they will not reach further.
Thanks to good content, you can rank many keywords in the top positions, but there will come a time when you will no longer be able to increase your relevance and traffic.
Link building is the part of the SEO strategy that will help these keywords, content and pages to rise to the top positions. Without a good SEO link building strategy, it will be really difficult for you to rise above Authority 27 or 28.
Google interprets links as recommendations , which is why they are so important. The quality level of your website is proportional to how many “positive and strong” links you have.

9.- Conduct a periodic results analysis
For your SEO project to work properly, you must know at all times how it is working.

For this reason, it is essential that your SEO consultant or positioning agency send you monthly reports of results , how your content and keywords are being positioned and how the visibility of your brand on Google is evolving.

And of course, depending on the results of each month, it may or may not be necessary to make changes or even conduct periodic positioning audits.
