About FISL18
The 2018 International Free Software Forum , from July 11th to 14th, was held in Porto Alegre, and since the year 2000, FISL18, as it is affectionately called, has managed to bring together an audience of more than 1,565 people and 45 caravans.

This year, during FISL18, there were 334 lectures in total, presenting themes on the technical aspects of development, free software programming and medicine 4.0, among others. These numbers are considered significant because the event was not held the previous year due to lack of sponsorship.

Even though they were smaller in size compared to recent events, the talks did not disappoint. They even included the illustrious Jon "Maddog" Hall and his 50 years of experience with Free Software. Here in this post are four topics that stood out at FISL18. Stay tuned.

Docker and Containers
Everyone's favorite was at FISL18. Docker had a significant norway number dataset of talks. Topics such as the Swarm manager , container security analysis, Dockers for databases, the Kubernetes orchestrator and even how to create GUI applications with containers.

Docker is a containerization software technology, developed by Docker, Inc., that provides an additional layer of abstraction and automation for operating system-level virtualization on Windows and Linux.

It uses the resource isolation features of the Linux kernel to allow independent "containers" to run within a single Linux instance, avoiding the overhead of starting and maintaining virtual machines (VMs).

To top it all off, Docker also has one of the largest free software communities , with lots of online documentation and events dedicated solely to this technology.

Subutai

There was no shortage of it during FISL18. With large companies dominating the Cloud Computing market, one question worries people a lot, which raises the question: “Where will my data be located?”. The answer is: Subutai ! This name is reminiscent of one of the great strategic generals of the Mongolian Army. It is the new darling of Jon "Maddog" Hall and a product of his company OptDyn .

Subutai is Maddog’s open source answer to this question. “Open source continues to be a key driver of innovation, and we are excited to share our knowledge of new open source business models that democratize the cloud and are suitable for users around the world. We are pleased to launch Subutai 6.0 and other OptDyn products in Latin America,” explained Hall.

It is the first secure Peer-to-Peer cloud computing services platform that enables private and dynamic cloud environments across infrastructures and devices. As a customer, you can choose your Peers around the world and group them into an “environment”.

Thus, the grouped Peers authenticate each other by creating a virtual network (VPN), and when the VPN is established, your environment is encrypted. With this, you can deploy your application and Subutai will create Linux containers on these Peers, thus offering a container as a service (CaaS) model. In the future, Peer owners will be able to stipulate a courtesy for the hour consumed, and this will be paid using Blockchain technology.

In addition to this platform, OptDyn also has Subutai Bazaar , called “the Airbnb of computing resources”, a marketplace where anyone can buy, share, sell or rent these computing resources. This system has its own internal currency, known as “GoodWill” and uses Khan, a cryptocurrency based on the famous Ethereum, which also uses Blockchain.
