correct certain defects of your website . Among the possible defects, there could be the fact of not having a blog ( but if you had a blog, you could also correct errors. Like reworking your old articles for example!
So today, I'm giving you more details to dust off your content . On the agenda: big spring cleaning on your blog, we open all the boxes, yes, even those in the basement that have been there for three years!
Do some spring cleaning!
I know, I'm the same: we often want to create content and write new things rather than rehash the old one. However, from an SEO point of view , an old article has a better chance of appearing in search engine results or SERPs. It is better established.
The blog article, unlike posts on social networks, has a long lifespan (around 2 to 3 years, or even more with updates). By updating its content, you allow your article to experience a second youth .
So let's take it step by step, it will go well!
Step 1 to rework your old articles: the catalog
The first thing to do if you don't already do it is to catalog all the articles on your blog. You open an Excel or Notion file with the title of the article, its link and its publication date.
I've been doing this since I started my blog, so at a glance I can quickly see the oldest posts, their subject and when they were published.
This saves a lot of time when doing updates .
Identify the ones that have the most notoriety and prioritize them to make them even more popular (you can see this on Google Analytics ). Classify your articles chronologically. You can also group them by subject, I'll explain why right away.
Come on, let's get to work!
Step 2: Merging multiple articles and… deleting!
I don't know how long you've had a blog, but if it's been more than a year, and especially if you were unorganized and fumbled around a bit at the beginning, there may be topics that come up several times.
The merger
If you spot two short articles (around 500-700 words) that can complement each other, you can merge them into one. A longer article will make your visitors stay longer and will help you reduce your bounce rate .
The deletion
Likewise, it is quite possible that you have covered a topic twice in roughly the same way.
And there, beware of duplicate content (yes, yes, you can put spokes in your own wheels).
In this case, you should not hesitate to part with one of the two items . I know, it's hard, especially if you have a collector's tendency, but it's necessary. Choose the most popular item (the one that receives the most traffic and/or impressions ) and say goodbye to the second one.
Warning: when you delete an article, don't forget to redirect it with the "redirection" extension on WordPress!

Respecting your editorial line
While you're at it, there's something else super important to look at: respecting your editorial line .
If you started your blog with your head down, you may not have thought through your editorial line at the beginning. Fix this mistake by simply deleting the articles that do not respect your editorial line of today.
A professional blog is not a personal blog. Don't talk about your passion for horses or your weekend in the Périgord if your editorial line has nothing to do with horse riding, animals, travel or food.
You are not here to tell your life story but to create a link with your prospects and customers . Always think user experience: your editorial line must be impeccable.
And if you don't want to delete them, nothing prevents you from opening a personal blog where you can write for your own pleasure. My professional blog is dedicated to web writing, you won't see me talking about my travels.
