Internal meshing: what are the benefits for your SEO?
Internal linking is essential for your natural referencing for two reasons:
1. It makes your site easier to navigate
When you strategically redirect your traffic through your different pages, your visitors are more likely to linger on your site and explore it in depth.
2. It makes it easier for search engines to index your site
Your visitors aren't the only ones who enjoy an optimal browsing experience when you create quality linking. Internal links make it easier for search engines to identify the level of importance of each of your pages and thus the structure of your site.
This makes it easier to index these pages, thereby improving your SEO and helping you attract more new traffic to your site.

What are the best practices for optimizing your internal links?
Here’s how to optimize your internal linking to strengthen your natural referencing and boost your traffic.
5 tips from an SEO audit expert :
Create lots of content
Optimize your link text
Update your internal mesh
Get more links to pages that convert
Don't overuse internal meshing
1. Create lots of content
Internal links don’t just fall from the sky! The first step to quality internal linking is to create a large amount of content to refer your readers to. We recommend that you consult our guide to web writing if you want to learn how to create quality content.
2. Optimize the text you anchor your internal links to
When you insert an internal link, you should definitely anchor it to a relevant segment of text. This allows the search engine to determine the topic of the page you are referring to, which strengthens its SEO. Here are the two ways we recommend doing this:
Anchor your internal links to the landing page keyword : If the mentioned page is optimized for the keyword “quiche recipe”, the link would be anchored to this same group of words in your article.
Anchor your internal links to a variation of the landing page keyword: to continue with the previous example, the link would be anchored to “how to make quiche”.
Another very common practice is to anchor your internal link to generic terms like “click here” or “learn more”. This practice is absolutely to be avoided, unless of course you want to position yourself for these keywords on Google (which we highly doubt!).

We recommend being strategic in choosing your link text by identifying your target keywords in advance. We explain how to conduct keyword research in our web marketing strategy guide.
3. Update your internal mesh frequently
When writing new pieces of content, you can easily add internal links to old pages on your website. However, that’s not enough!
Internal linking requires continuous updating in order to also optimize your new pieces of content. To do this, identify the existing pages on your site that your new article complements, then insert your new internal link there.
4. Link more to pages that convert
Internal linking is extremely powerful because it allows you to deliberately choose which pages of your site you want to send your visitors to. Take advantage of it!
Choose your internal links strategically to increase your conversions. To do this, insert your internal links to your pages that are most likely to be shared on social media as well as to those that convert the best.
